Our verdict on The Elder Scrolls Online
The Elder Scrolls Online is a paid online role-playing game set in the Elder Scrolls universe, for players who want both solo questing and shared activities. Its story quests can be played alone or with friends, so group participation is not required for the main story. Exploration across Tamriel sits alongside crafting professions such as alchemy, blacksmithing, clothing, and enchanting, giving players activities beyond quest progression.
Group content ranges from four-player dungeons to twelve-player trials, while player-versus-player options include duels, Alliance War, and Battlegrounds. That range gives the game room for players who want to move between solo story play and coordinated or competitive sessions. PC/Mac gamepad and controller support is available, and PC/Mac players can also use player-made UI add-ons. Those add-ons are not vendor-produced content, so players looking for vendor-made interface extensions should not assume they are included.
The official PC/Mac store lists Standard and Deluxe editions for purchase, both as PC/Mac digital downloads. Optional ESO Plus membership and additional game content are also available. The game requires a persistent internet connection and an ESO account, which makes it a poor fit for offline play. Its listed platform coverage is Windows and macOS, so players seeking console editions should look elsewhere. Choose it if you want an online RPG with solo-capable quests plus dungeons, trials, PvP, and crafting; skip it if you need offline play or a non-desktop platform.
