Our verdict on Tencent Cloud Secrets Manager

Tencent Cloud Secrets Manager (SSM) is a cloud service for storing and managing sensitive credentials across their lifecycle. It stores encrypted name-value secrets such as database credentials, passwords, API keys, tokens, certificates, and SSH keys. Applications retrieve credentials through APIs rather than hardcoding them. It is aimed at teams already operating in Tencent Cloud, particularly those that need access control, audit logging, rotation, or Kubernetes synchronization.

Pricing is available through two monthly plans. Pay-as-you-go storage costs USD 0.40 per enabled or disabled secret per month, with usage billed postpaid. The published plan also includes API-based access to stored credentials. Enterprise Edition costs USD 366 per month and includes 1,000 managed credentials and 500 QPS computing performance. Availability and pricing can vary by region. There is no free plan, so teams should account for recurring storage costs when comparing it with no-cost alternatives.

Its strongest fit is the Tencent Cloud ecosystem. SSM connects with Tencent Cloud KMS, Cloud Access Management (CAM), CloudAudit, Tencent Kubernetes Engine, and ExternalSecrets Operator. Security-related capabilities include TLS-secured credential transfer, resource-level authorization through CAM, CloudAudit logging of credential operations and usage, application-layer rotation, and multi-region replication for disaster recovery. Kubernetes teams can synchronize SSM credentials into Kubernetes Secret objects through the documented ExternalSecrets integration. Choose SSM when Tencent Cloud alignment, low per-secret pricing, and these platform integrations matter. Consider another tool if a free plan, verified dynamic secrets, or CI/CD injection is required.
