Tencent Cloud COS is a distributed object storage service for storing, uploading, downloading, and managing large volumes of files. It is aimed at Tencent Cloud users that need standard object storage through buckets and objects, with access available through a web console and APIs. The service also supports SDKs, command-line tools, and graphical tools, giving technical teams several ways to manage storage workloads.

COS uses usage-based pay-as-you-go billing and prepaid resource packages rather than conventional monthly plans. New users can receive an official free tier lasting 180 days, but it is not a permanent free plan. The feature set covers multiple storage classes, lifecycle transitions, expiration rules, versioning, restore and deletion markers, and same-region or cross-region bucket replication. Object Lock adds retention controls, although access to that capability is restricted to allowlisted customers.

For application compatibility, COS supports HTTP/HTTPS access and an S3-compatible implementation for use with many S3-compatible applications. That can help teams move existing workflows or tools toward COS, but full S3 compatibility is not guaranteed. Upload limits also vary by method: API and SDK multipart uploads support objects up to 50,000 GB, while console uploads are limited to 512 GB and simple uploads to 5 GB. Choose COS for Tencent Cloud-centered storage with lifecycle, replication, and versioning features. Consider another service if universal S3 compatibility or unrestricted Object Lock access is essential.
