Our verdict on StormDesk

StormDesk brings local forecasts, radar, warnings, and weather history into one dashboard for people who want more than a quick look at current conditions. It is free and open source, with browser, desktop, and mobile versions, including an Android APK. The Weather view combines current conditions, forecast days, metrics such as rain, lightning, wind, UV index, and humidity, and radar. Separate Radar and History views add playback, charts, records, and measurement snapshots. That breadth makes it especially relevant to weather-station owners and people who want a dashboard they can host themselves, rather than a narrowly focused phone forecast app.

Its station connections are a notable part of the product: supported options include WeatherFlow Tempest, Ecowitt, Ambient Weather, Davis WeatherLink Live, AcuRite via rtl_433, La Crosse Technology, and WeeWX, along with Weather Underground-compatible upload. Forecasts can cover up to ten days, depending on the provider. StormDesk also offers nearby official warnings and emergencies, plus user-defined rules for weather conditions. For a household with an existing station, this combination of readings, history, and alerts can make StormDesk a more fitting choice than a forecast-only app. The breadth of supported station connections is useful, but the forecast horizon is not uniform across providers.

The main trade-off on Android is alert continuity: StormDesk says continuous station ingestion and household alerts require a desktop or headless host, and Android alone does not promise independent background delivery. That makes it a weaker fit for someone seeking a phone-only app that reliably handles background household alerts. Its APK distribution is also worth considering when choosing an Android app. Pick StormDesk if you value open-source availability, radar playback, historical records, or connections to a personal weather station; look elsewhere if your priority is standalone Android alert delivery without another host.
