Our verdict on The Weather Channel
The Weather Channel is an Android app for people who want local forecasts, radar and storm information alongside everyday weather conditions. Its forecasts extend up to 15 days, with hourly and daily updates, while the home screen includes an hourly rain tracker and three-hour forecast alerts. Air-quality, allergy and pollen information broaden its use beyond checking temperature and precipitation, making it a fit for general-purpose weather monitoring rather than a narrowly focused tool.
Radar is a central strength: the app provides live Doppler and rain radar maps, plus 24-hour future radar. Severe-weather alerts and storm warnings add timely context when conditions may change. The Premium plan extends future radar to 72 hours and adds a 192-hour forecast and extended 15-minute details; it also includes the Storm Radar Premium app. Buyers who mainly need a quick forecast may not need those more detailed layers, while people tracking storms or planning around changing conditions may find them more relevant.
The freemium plans separate advertising and forecast depth. Basic is ad-supported and includes the Morning Brief newsletter; Standard removes ads and retains the newsletter. Premium is also ad-free and adds the advanced radar and forecast features. The published pricing information gives a starting price of $9.99 and advertises annual prices with monthly equivalents, so buyers should compare the billing terms before choosing. Pick The Weather Channel for broad local coverage and severe-weather tracking on Android; consider another option if you need a platform beyond Android or prefer a focused forecast without a paid tier for extended radar.
