Storm Buckets is a cloud object storage service for businesses, developers, and platform operators that want S3-compatible storage hosted on Canadian infrastructure. Its positioning is most relevant to small teams that need straightforward storage and browser-based access rather than a broad set of data-protection controls. It supports AWS Signature Version 4 authentication, buckets, and account- or bucket-scoped access keys. A web-based Bucket Explorer handles browsing, searching, previews, uploads, and downloads, while the API and S3 compatibility provide a route for client and application access.

Ecosystem fit is a practical strength: listed integrations include AWS CLI, rclone, Veeam, Restic, S3 SDKs, Terraform, and tools or providers such as MinIO, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Cloudflare R2, and Ceph. Data workflows include one-time imports from S3-compatible providers and scheduled incremental backups from another S3-compatible provider. Static website hosting and custom domains extend bucket use beyond application storage, while audit logs provide an activity record. Those capabilities make the service more useful to teams moving existing S3-compatible data or serving simple sites than a storage-only offer would be.

According to the vendor's pricing details, the Production plan is CAD $9 per TB per month, with stackable 1 TB storage blocks; buckets and keys are not billed units. Static hosting, custom domains, and audit logs are included. However, the service is currently in alpha: access is full, billing is not yet active, and the vendor warns that data loss is possible during alpha. The feature set also lacks versioning, lifecycle rules, immutability, and replication. Teams should consider Storm Buckets for simple S3 storage and browsing once production billing begins, but choose an alternative if they require those protection and replication controls or need an available production service now.

Storm Buckets pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • S3-compatible access works with tools such as AWS CLI, rclone, and S3 SDKs.
    • Bucket Explorer supports searching, previewing, uploading, and downloading objects.
    • Static hosting, custom domains, imports, scheduled backups, and audit logs are included.
  • Where it doesn't
    • Versioning, lifecycle rules, immutability, and replication are absent.
    • Alpha access is full, and the vendor warns of possible data loss during alpha.
    • Billing is not active until production availability; no free plan is offered.
