Our verdict on Starfield
Set in 2330, Starfield is a science-fiction role-playing game about a space explorer who joins Constellation to seek artifacts across the Settled Systems. Character creation includes appearance, background, and traits, while quests, factions, and recruitable characters shape the journey. Its mix of planetary exploration, ship customization, resource gathering, outpost building, research, crafting, and combat makes it a fit for solo RPG players who want several connected systems to pursue. It is designed for single-player play, so it is not aimed at players looking for co-op sessions.
Exploration and ship play are central strengths. Players can travel through planets, cities, bases, and wild landscapes, collect resources, customize ships, assign crew, and take part in space dogfights. Outposts add another layer: players can build them, hire crew, and connect cargo links. Research projects unlock crafting recipes, while weapons can be modified and boost packs can be used in combat. This breadth suits players who like alternating between quests, exploration, and building projects; those seeking a tightly focused RPG may find the number of systems less appealing.
The Standard Edition contains the base game. The Premium Edition adds Terran Armada Story DLC, Shattered Space Story Expansion, 1,000 Creation Credits, and a digital artbook and original soundtrack, alongside the base game. Starfield is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, giving console players a choice between the two listed systems and PC players another option. Choose it for a solo science-fiction RPG with ship and outpost customization; look elsewhere if multiplayer is important or if you prefer a narrower single-player experience.
