Our verdict on SQLGrease

SQLGrease is a cloud-based database performance monitoring platform for Microsoft SQL Server environments. It is aimed at teams that need query-level visibility into wait events, execution plans, locks, deadlocks, resource usage, and session activity. It supports on-premises SQL Server as well as Azure SQL Database, Azure Managed Instances, and Amazon RDS. A Windows-based collector gathers and sanitizes diagnostic data before sending it to SQLGrease cloud services, while the platform is available through web and Windows interfaces.

Its strongest differentiator is the depth of SQL Server performance analysis. SQLGrease combines historical execution plans with execution-plan profiles and live query plans, then adds query lock-tree analysis, deadlock capture, memory and tempdb usage analysis, and execution snapshots. Configurable events and email notifications support ongoing monitoring, while query and execution-plan sanitization addresses the handling of diagnostic content. These capabilities make it a focused choice for investigating why queries wait, block, deadlock, or consume database resources.

Pricing is paid and starts at $79 per month for Basic, which includes unlimited users, 8 Gig of storage, and a recommendation for up to 8 CPUs. Standard costs $99 per month with 15 Gig of storage and is recommended for 8 to 24 CPUs. Premium costs $119 per month with 30 Gig of storage and is recommended for 24+ CPUs. The published plans also show Basic at $806 per year, alongside a 30-day fully functional trial. SQLGrease suits SQL Server teams that value detailed diagnostics and flexible retention. Organizations needing broad multi-database coverage should choose a wider platform instead.
