Spice is a paid desktop wallpaper manager for Windows and macOS, with a Chrome extension and browser support across Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. It is suited to people who want a changing desktop built from online art collections, personal images, and local folders rather than a single static background. Automatic rotation uses custom minute-based schedules, while support for multiple displays allows each screen to have its own wallpaper configuration.
Its strongest area is image sourcing and presentation. Spice connects to 13 wallpaper sources, including Wallhaven, Pexels, Google Photos, Wikimedia Commons, local folders, favorites, and collections from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Rijksmuseum, and other museums. Smart cropping uses face detection and composition-aware framing, and the Virtual Museum Frame can display images without cropping. Browser extensions provide a direct way to send online images to the desktop.
Spice also provides global and per-display keyboard shortcuts, favorites, a wallpaper blocklist, and support for Windows system tray or macOS menu bar use. It is distributed through the Mac App Store, Microsoft Store, Homebrew, Winget, and direct downloads. The Windows plan is offered through the Microsoft Store, while the Mac plan is offered through the Mac App Store and requires macOS 12.0 or later with Apple M1 or later.
