Our verdict on Specter VPN
Specter VPN provides encrypted internet access through WireGuard and OpenVPN, with Windows and Linux apps. It is aimed at people who need VPN traffic to work on networks that block UDP or VPN connections, particularly Linux and Windows users seeking an automatic fallback. The vendor documents WireGuard over TCP 443 in Stealth mode and a Smart fallback to Stealth when UDP is blocked. That is a focused response to restrictive networks, but it does not establish reliable operation in Iran. The vendor also says it has no mobile apps; macOS is listed as not yet published.
Pricing starts with Free, which offers unlimited data with no expiry and requires no card. Plus costs $4.99 per month with monthly billing or $2.29 per month with annual billing. It adds five simultaneous devices, all 10 server locations, all five protocols and 60 API requests per hour. Pro costs $9.99 monthly or $4.99 per month with annual billing; it raises the device limit to 20 and API allowance to 600 requests per hour, and adds priority support. Both paid plans include all 10 locations and all five protocols. Paid plans have a 30-day refund period.
Beyond stealth transport, Specter includes a firewall-enforced kill switch, DNS and IPv6 leak blocking, DNS filtering for ads, trackers, malware and phishing domains, and split tunneling by application or subnet. Port forwarding over NAT-PMP and a REST API for managing VPN nodes and exit IPs broaden its appeal to technically capable users; deployment options include cloud and self-hosted. Its reach remains narrow: it is limited to Windows and Linux, and the vendor says no independent security audit has been completed. Choose it if those platforms and its fallback behavior fit your needs; consider alternatives if you need mobile access or independently audited security.
