Our verdict on SourceMeter

SourceMeter is a self-hosted, command-line source-code analyzer from FrontEndART Software Ltd. for teams that want detailed static metrics and duplication analysis across Java, C/C++, C#, JavaScript, Python and RPG projects. It analyzes code at package, class and method levels, reports coding issues, and calculates more than 100 source-code metrics. Its scope suits small teams through enterprise groups that need code-structure insight as part of their development workflow, especially when clone tracking is a priority.

The analysis detail is a central strength: SourceMeter combines package-, class- and method-level views with syntax-based Type-2 clone detection. Custom dashboards cover packages, classes, methods and clone instances, while CloneViewer supports comparing and managing duplications. These capabilities give teams several levels at which to examine repeated code rather than relying only on a single project-wide measure. The product is focused on static metrics and coding issues; teams seeking vulnerability analysis should consider a tool oriented to that need instead.

SourceMeter runs on Windows and Linux and is self-hosted, so teams should account for maintaining the analysis environment. A SonarQube plug-in imports analysis results and adds dashboards and clone-management views for teams already using that ecosystem. The vendor's support community references a free edition, and support channels include community resources and documentation. The published information describes a freemium model but does not provide plan-by-plan pricing details here. Choose SourceMeter if multi-language metrics, clone inspection and SonarQube integration fit your workflow; look elsewhere if you need vulnerability analysis or prefer a managed service.
