SolarWinds Service Desk review
A mature ITSM suite for teams that need CMDB, asset, SLA, and change-management depth.

SolarWinds Service Desk is a cloud-based IT service management platform for IT teams and organizations supporting employees. It combines incident, problem, change, and release management with a service catalog, employee self-service portal, knowledge base, asset management, CMDB capabilities, reporting, automation, and mobile access. Pricing is based on technician licenses, while the platform supports unlimited requestors, making it suited to organizations with a wide employee base and a dedicated service desk.
The plan structure separates core ITSM from advanced automation and AI. Essentials costs $39 per technician per month with annual billing and includes Incident Management, Knowledge Base, Service Portal, Asset Management, Service Catalog, and Change Management. Advanced costs $99 and adds Custom Fields and Forms, Advanced Automations, Runbooks, Virtual Agent, and Enterprise Service Management. Premier costs $124 and adds AI Incident Summaries, AI-Guided Incident Solutions, Intelligent Incident/Problem Linking, AI-Generated Responses, and Visual CMDB and Dependency Mapping. A fully functional 30-day trial is available, but it is not a free plan.
Its strongest fit is an enterprise service desk that needs connected asset, incident, SLA, and change processes rather than ticketing alone. Asset discovery, inventory, lifecycle and license management pair with CMDB dependency mapping and asset-incident correlation, while SLA timers, breach monitoring, approvals, templates, and workflows support operational governance. Microsoft Teams, Slack, Jira, Zendesk, Google Apps, Zapier, Okta, OneLogin, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory, Amazon Web Services, and VMware vCenter integrations extend its ecosystem fit. Organizations seeking a lower-cost help desk or a free ongoing plan should look elsewhere; teams that need CMDB depth and structured ITSM can justify the higher entry price.
