Our verdict on SkyPilot

SkyPilot is an open-source AI compute platform for running, scheduling, and managing workloads across Kubernetes, Slurm, virtual machines, on-premises infrastructure, and cloud GPU providers. It is aimed at AI infrastructure teams that need a unified way to provision clusters, submit jobs, serve models, and manage shared accelerator capacity. Its deployment model is hybrid, with web, API, and self-hosted access, and it supports GPU, TPU, and other accelerators.

Workload management is the core strength. SkyPilot supports batch job queueing, interactive development, gang scheduling, and multi-node jobs, while per-team and per-user quotas help govern shared resources. Preemption, borrowing, and priority scheduling provide additional control over allocation. GPU utilization and health monitoring, idle-resource reclamation, autostop, model serving, and autoscaling extend the platform from job submission into ongoing capacity management. Kubernetes and Slurm support make it suitable for environments that already use either scheduler.

The platform also fits organizations operating across several infrastructure providers. Listed integrations include AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, CoreWeave, Lambda Cloud, RunPod, and Nebius, alongside Kubernetes and Slurm. The open-source edition can run in users’ own infrastructure, while SkyPilot Platform adds managed and enterprise capabilities for larger AI infrastructure teams. Choose SkyPilot when multi-cloud provisioning, shared GPU governance, and varied workload types matter together. A narrower single-cluster workflow may not need its full orchestration scope, and teams preferring managed capabilities should evaluate SkyPilot Platform rather than relying only on self-hosted deployment.
