Our verdict on Skybrary
Skybrary is a reading app for children ages 3–9, combining a curated eBook library with virtual field-trip videos and themed reading adventures. Its reading experience supports both independent and read-aloud use through Read-to-Me narration, text highlighting, and offline book access. Parents can track reading progress, while educators get classroom tools, curriculum-aligned activities, lesson resources, and student progress reports. The ad-free experience is available on web, iOS, and Android, giving families and classrooms several ways to access the service.
The plan structure makes Skybrary easy to sample before committing. The free Skybrary plan includes 100 handpicked books, 50 virtual field trips, progress tracking, offline access, and support for up to 5 children. Skybrary Plus expands the library to 1,000+ handpicked books and 150+ virtual field trips, adding 17 parent coaching videos while retaining progress tracking and offline access. Plus costs $6.99 per month or $49.99 per year, and both paid options include a 30-day free trial. Families focused on long-term access pay less with the annual plan, while monthly billing offers a shorter commitment.
Skybrary’s strongest distinction is the combination of story content and guided exploration. Narration and highlighting can support follow-along reading, while field trips, themed islands, and educator activities add variety beyond a conventional digital bookshelf. The main tradeoff is scope: the free plan is a smaller sample of the catalog, and the product is specifically centered on early readers ages 3–9. Families seeking an engaging library for that age range should consider Skybrary; readers outside it may need a more age-flexible reading app.
