Our verdict on Simply Fortran
Simply Fortran is a desktop development environment centered on Fortran, aimed at developers who want an editor, compiler, project tools and debugger in one application. Its debugger supports breakpoints, variable inspection and call-stack navigation; the IDE can also build executables and static or shared libraries. Beyond Fortran, syntax highlighting covers languages including C/C++, Python, Lua and shell scripts. It is a focused choice for solo developers and teams working in Fortran, rather than a general-purpose IDE with broad platform coverage.
The feature set reaches into the development workflow: Git operations are available through a graphical interface, and the product supports GNU Fortran, LLVM flang, language servers and Windows Subsystem for Linux. Fortran autocomplete covers modules and derived types, while project and file outlines help expose code structure. Profiling and OpenMP support add tools for performance-oriented Fortran work.
