Our verdict on SetField
SetField is a locally installed AI studio for filmmakers, brands and agencies who want to direct short video clips with detailed virtual camera settings. It generates video from still images, creates images from text, and can produce voice-over and instrumental score locally. Its camera controls include named moves such as dolly in, orbit, crane up, crash zoom and whip pan, alongside settings for the camera body, lens, focal length, aperture, framing and lighting. That makes it a fit for solo filmmakers and small teams who value shot direction over long-form generation.
The workflow extends beyond generation: reference images can be locked for people, products or places, and shots can be chained by using the last frame of one clip as the first frame of the next. A timeline supports trimming, reordering, titles, grading and audio, with H.264 export up to 1080p. The vendor says clip rendering is generally 480p or 720p depending on hardware, while the timeline exports a 1080p master. SetField runs on Windows and Mac rather than rendering in the cloud, and offers a local API and MCP server, with integrations listed for Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Kimi, Cursor and MCP clients.
The published plan is a $149 one-time Lifetime License for Windows and Mac, including both video engines, every v1 update, and unlimited video, image, voice-over and score generation. There is no free plan. The vendor notes each engine pack has its own model license, so commercial-use rights may depend on the engine selected. The short clip limit and lower typical rendering resolution make SetField less suited to projects requiring longer, high-resolution generated footage; buyers seeking fine camera direction and a local, editable workflow may find its focus a better match.
