Our verdict on Rhombus Access Control

Rhombus Access Control is a cloud-managed physical access platform for organizations controlling building entry across one or more locations. It brings together door readers, controllers, mobile credentials, keycards, access schedules, role-based permissions, visitor invitations, guest logs, audit trails, and event monitoring. Administrators manage doors, users, permissions, and events through a web dashboard, while users can unlock supported entrances with the Rhombus Key app on iOS and Android. Its strongest fit is for commercial, institutional, and enterprise teams that want access control connected with video intercom and wider physical security operations.

The platform’s standout strength is its combination of access and visitor communication. The DR40 Video Intercom supports two-way visitor communication, while visitor workflows include self-service sign-in and sign-out and guest logs. Access events can be monitored through audit trails, and the platform can connect with cameras, sensors, alarms, and third-party hardware. Integrations include Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, Okta, Genea, Assa Abloy Aperio, and Wavelynx Ethos. API access extends to reporting, video, access control, and sensor data, giving organizations options for connecting the system to existing workflows.

Pricing requires planning around hardware and doors rather than selecting a standard software tier. The DR20 Door Reader is $299 one-time, the DC10 Single-Door Controller is $799 one-time, the DC20 4-Door Controller is $1,399 one-time, and the DR40 Video Intercom is $1,099 one-time. A required door license costs $199 per door per year. This structure may suit teams budgeting for a configured deployment, but it makes comparisons less direct than plan-based products. Choose Rhombus for broad access, visitor, video, and integration needs; consider an alternative if you want a simpler subscription structure.
