Our verdict on Reproxy

Reproxy is an open-source, self-hosted HTTP(S) edge server and reverse proxy for routing requests to backend services. It supports Windows, macOS, Linux, and self-hosted deployment, with distribution through a standalone binary and Docker image. Small teams that want control over routing, TLS, traffic handling, and deployment choices will find a broad set of capabilities in one product. Routing can use static, file, Docker, or Consul Catalog providers, with host and URL pattern matching for virtual-host configurations.

Its strongest fit is an environment that needs more than basic forwarding. Reproxy can obtain automatic Let's Encrypt certificates or use user-provided certificates, while health checks, failover, and load balancing help manage backend availability. Static asset serving includes SPA mode, and response compression, logging, configurable timeouts, request throttling, per-route limits, IP-based access control, and basic authentication cover common edge requirements. A management server provides route information and Prometheus metrics, while RPC plugin support extends the deployment model.

The ecosystem connections are practical for self-hosted teams: Docker and Consul Catalog support service discovery, and DNS integrations include Cloudflare, AWS Route53, Gandi, DigitalOcean, Hetzner, Linode, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Scaleway, Porkbun, DNSimple, and DuckDNS. Reproxy is a strong choice when a team wants an open-source proxy with routing flexibility, automatic TLS, traffic controls, caching, and operational visibility. Teams seeking only a minimal forwarding layer may find its breadth unnecessary, while those preferring a managed service should consider a different deployment model.
