Our verdict on RDFox

RDFox is an in-memory knowledge graph database and semantic reasoning engine from Oxford Semantic Technologies. It is designed for teams managing RDF data, querying with SPARQL 1.1 and deriving new facts from rules and ontological axioms. Its stated use cases include semantic search, recommendations, compliance, configuration management and data integration. Deployment spans Linux, macOS and Windows, with web and API access also available.

Its strongest differentiator is the depth of its reasoning stack. RDFox combines RDF storage with OWL 2 and SWRL ontology support, Datalog rule-based reasoning, incremental reasoning and automated materialisation. It also supports SHACL and imports N-Triples, Turtle, N-Quads, TriG, OWL 2 Functional-Style Syntax and Datalog. This makes it a focused option for organizations that need semantic reasoning rather than a general-purpose graph database. High availability and access control add capabilities relevant to enterprise deployments.

The product connects through REST and Java APIs and includes a graphical web console for querying and exploring graph data. According to the vendor's pricing model, RDFox uses contact-sales pricing and has no free plan, while free access is available through an evaluation or demo request. That approach suits teams assessing a specialized platform for production knowledge graph work, but it is less convenient for buyers who need a self-serve purchase path or an open-source deployment. Choose RDFox when RDF, SPARQL and rule-based inference are central requirements; consider another option when fixed public pricing or open-source licensing matters more.
