Our verdict on QuickWeather
QuickWeather is a free, open-source weather app for Android, aimed at people who want forecasts and radar without ads or in-app purchases. It covers general weather rather than a narrow specialist use: current conditions include temperature, precipitation, wind, humidity, pressure, and dew point. Users can save multiple locations or opt for current-location weather, making it suited to checking conditions across places as well as nearby forecasts.
Forecasts are presented at several time scales: hourly temperature and precipitation for 48 hours, three-hour forecasts for five days, and daily highs and lows for seven days. Current and forecast temperature and precipitation graphs add another way to follow changes. Fullscreen radar, daily UV index, current-weather notifications, and weather-alert notifications round out the feature set. The app also offers optional background location for notifications and alerts when enabled, so users who prefer not to share location can instead add places manually.
Data comes through OpenWeatherMap or Open-Meteo. According to the published product details, Open-Meteo does not require an API key, while OpenWeatherMap requires an active API key and subscription. That choice is the main practical distinction in getting started: users can choose the no-key source, or use OpenWeatherMap subject to its stated requirements. QuickWeather is a good fit for Android users who value an open-source, ad-free app with radar, alerts, graphs, and a seven-day outlook. It is less suitable for anyone seeking an iOS or desktop app, or who needs a broader weather platform beyond its general forecast and radar tools.
