Our verdict on Querona
Querona is a data virtualization and Data Fabric platform for organizations that need to connect, query, govern, and integrate heterogeneous data without upfront ETL. It provides real-time federation, SQL querying through a SQL Server-compatible endpoint with T-SQL support, and virtual databases, tables, and views for modeling. Its audience is enterprise data teams, analysts, and organizations that need governed access across on-premises, cloud IaaS, or hybrid infrastructure. BI users can work through Power BI, Microsoft Excel, Tableau, and Qlik, while technical teams can use APIs and database connectivity standards.
Pricing is organized into Basic, Standard, and Enterprise packages, with subscription and perpetual-license models. Basic includes the Data Virtualizer and Query Optimizer. Standard adds the Big Data Engine, more connectors, and Business Analyst Self-Service. Enterprise adds offload to the cloud while retaining the Standard capabilities. The published packaging does not present numeric prices, and Querona does not offer a free plan, so the commercial fit depends on a sales conversation and the required package. Buyers comparing predictable self-serve pricing may prefer a product with publicly listed rates.
The platform’s breadth is its main strength. Governance features include row-level security, permissions, and data masking, while metadata lineage and a searchable catalog support oversight. Materialization and query-result caching provide multiple ways to manage repeated workloads, and recurring jobs support scheduled task execution. REST, GraphQL, and MCP endpoints extend access beyond SQL, while the built-in Apache Spark engine and columnar processing support broader data workflows. Querona is a strong fit for enterprises that want federation, governance, scheduling, and varied integration paths under customer-controlled infrastructure. Organizations seeking a vendor-operated SaaS service or a simpler, narrower query tool should consider alternatives.
