Our verdict on Qualys VMDR

Qualys VMDR is a cloud-based vulnerability management product for organizations managing diverse hybrid environments. It discovers and inventories assets across on-premises, cloud, containers, mobile, OT and IoT environments, then assesses vulnerabilities and misconfigurations through authenticated or unauthenticated scanning. Continuous or scheduled scans, CIS-based configuration assessment, threat-based prioritization, reporting and remediation workflows make it suited to enterprise security teams that need one system across varied asset types.

Pricing is structured across three paid plans. VMDR TruRisk starts at $2,195 and includes vulnerability management, risk-based prioritization, CIS benchmark assessment, SSL certificate monitoring and PCI assessment with an approved ASV scan. VMDR TruRisk FixIT starts at $2,995 and adds vulnerability remediation and patch management for cloud and on-premises assets. VMDR TruRisk ProtectIT starts at $4,645 and adds behaviour-based antivirus and antimalware protection plus integrated endpoint detection and response. A seven-day free trial is available, but there is no free plan.

The product’s main advantage is breadth. Its supported targets include routers, switches, firewalls, servers, workstations, databases, printers, wireless access devices, cloud assets, containers, mobile devices, OT and IoT assets. Integrations with ServiceNow, Jira, AWS Security Hub, Microsoft Sentinel, AWS S3, Splunk, Jenkins, Azure DevOps and QRadar support security, IT and remediation workflows. Choose Qualys VMDR when hybrid coverage, continuous assessment and risk-based remediation are priorities. Organizations seeking a narrower scanner or a lower-cost entry point may prefer a more focused alternative.
