Our verdict on Pulsar

Pulsar is a software-based live encoder from RePro Stream Ltd for production, editorial, grading, finishing and remote monitoring teams. Pulsar Desktop runs on Windows and macOS workstations, while Pulsar Mobile supports iPhone and iPad contribution. It accepts screen capture, hardware capture, NDI, SRT, files, Unreal Engine and supported camera sources, then sends each source to up to two independent outputs. SDR and HDR streaming up to UHD, live previews, stream statistics and pipeline monitoring make it suited to small desktop contribution setups.

The published plans cover three usage models. Free costs £0 and includes one project, one stream, up to 1080p and three users. Flexible costs £7 per day and adds unlimited projects, unlimited streams, guest links, watermarking and adaptive bitrate streaming. Enterprise costs £80 per user per month with monthly billing and adds single sign-on with Okta, white labelling, self-hosting and up to 4K. Pulsar requires a RePro account, and standalone workflows are available with a Pulsar subscription.

Platform fit is a central strength: Pulsar lists integrations and compatibility with Avid Media Composer, OBS, VLC, NDI, SRT, Unreal Engine, Blackmagic DeckLink and Insta360. Per-output controls cover codec, bitrate, resolution, bit-depth and chroma, while Orbit provides local-network browser viewing and Fleet provides remote administration. The main constraint is its output scope: the listed protocols are SRT and NDI. Choose Pulsar if those protocols, desktop operation and production-oriented source handling match the workflow; choose an alternative when broader protocol coverage is required.
