Proton Drive is an encrypted cloud storage and file-sharing service for individuals, families, and businesses that prioritize privacy. It provides access through the web, Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android, with desktop synchronization, mobile photo backups, albums, password-protected links, expiration dates, and online document and spreadsheet editing. Proton states that file contents, filenames, and folder names are encrypted before leaving the device through a zero-access model.

The plan structure covers several use cases. Proton Free includes 5 GB of storage, an online document and spreadsheet editor, and end-to-end encryption. Drive Plus adds 200 GB of storage and 10 years to recover previous file versions. Proton Unlimited includes 500 GB plus Proton VPN, Mail, Calendar, and Pass. Proton Duo provides 2 TB for up to 2 users and adds advanced account protection. Drive Professional offers 1 TB per user, a business admin panel, 365-day file version history, and a 14-day free trial. Business capabilities also include user management, access controls, centralized administration, and collaboration features.

The main trade-off is ecosystem breadth. Proton Drive works with Proton Docs and Proton Sheets, while its feature set also includes a command-line interface for automation and file version history. That combination makes it a strong fit for Proton users who want encrypted storage across desktop and mobile devices, especially when sharing controls and privacy-focused design matter. Users who need a wider range of third-party integrations or a less Proton-centered workflow should consider an alternative cloud storage service.
