Our verdict on Prefect
Prefect is a Python-based workflow orchestration platform for data, machine-learning, durable-execution, and agent workflows. Teams define flows and tasks in Python, then deploy them to managed Prefect Cloud, their own infrastructure, or hybrid environments. It suits individual developers, startups, data teams, and enterprise organizations that want code-defined workflows with scheduling, retries, event triggers, observability, and optional human approval steps.
The plan structure covers a free entry point and several paid operating models. Hobby is free forever and includes workflow scheduling, workflow observability, logging, and alerting. Starter costs $100 per month and adds bring-your-own compute and webhooks alongside workflow scheduling. Team costs $100 per user per month and adds service accounts, audit logs, and team collaboration. Enterprise adds SSO with SAML/OIDC, RBAC and ACLs, SCIM directory sync, IP allowlisting, and PrivateLink.
