Our verdict on Planet Zoo
Planet Zoo is a zoo-construction and management simulation from Frontier Developments plc for players who want to design habitats, care for animals, and run a zoo. Its loop combines creative building with animal needs and zoo operations, including finances, rather than focusing on construction alone. It is a single-player game for Windows, with controller support and mod support listed in its specifications.
The four modes give the simulation different structures. Career offers story-driven scenarios and objectives, while Sandbox lets players customize animal and economy settings for open-ended building. Challenge mode can be played offline, with an economy and optional challenges. Franchise connects zoos and enables online animal trading; the official beginner guide says an internet connection is required for that mode. The game has no multiplayer mode, so online trading should not be mistaken for shared play. Players can also share creations through Steam Workshop, and the PC edition is sold through Steam.
Planet Zoo is a paid game, and the official buy page presents Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions. The available purchase information does not establish prices, so buyers should check the current Steam listing for edition costs. Its breadth suits solo players who want both detailed habitat design and ongoing zoo management, with modes ranging from guided scenarios to customizable play. It is a weaker fit for anyone seeking a multiplayer zoo game, a non-Windows release, or a free entry point. Buyers who mainly want creative simulation and are comfortable with a Windows desktop game have the clearest reason to consider it.
