Our verdict on Pi.Alert
Pi.Alert is an open-source network monitoring app for home and small-network administrators who want visibility into connected devices and configured web services. It scans a Wi-Fi or LAN network, tracks device and IP information, and keeps device history and scan events. Alerts can flag unknown devices and disconnections, making it useful for self-hosters who want to notice changes on a network they manage rather than rely on a hosted scanner.
Its scope extends beyond device discovery. Scheduled scans store results over time, and configured web services can be monitored for HTTP status, SSL certificate, and response time. The project supports integrations with Home Assistant, Pi-hole, UniFi, FRITZ!Box, MikroTik, OpenWrt, AsusWRT, pfSense, OPNsense, and AdGuard Home. API endpoints, webhooks, CSV exports, and plugins provide ways to connect scan results with automation and extend data collection. Installation is documented for Raspberry Pi and Debian-based Linux systems, so it fits people comfortable managing Linux-hosted software.
Pi.Alert is free and open source, with no commercial tier structure to weigh. The trade-off is that it does not provide verified security checks: its focus is discovering devices and monitoring changes, not assessing whether devices or services are secure. Support is through community resources and documentation. Choose it if you want a self-hosted view of network devices plus service monitoring and automation hooks; look elsewhere if you need verified security assessment or prefer a managed product with direct support.
