Our verdict on PhotoGuard

PhotoGuard is an Android photo and video vault from Cubetix Ltd. It protects stored media with PIN, password, pattern, or fingerprint locks, alongside AES-256 encryption. The free download includes a broad set of privacy features: album-level passwords, a private camera that saves directly into the vault, trash recovery for deleted media, automatic backup and restore, quick exit when the home button is pressed, break-in alerts with intruder photos, and a fake vault protected by a separate PIN. It is aimed at Android users who want a free vault with more than basic app locking.

The feature depth is the main reason to consider PhotoGuard. The combination of local vault protection, album controls, recovery, private capture, and a decoy vault covers everyday privacy needs as well as situations where discreet access matters. The app also offers private cloud backup and synchronization, but cloud use is presented as an optional premium feature. That gives users a choice between local-only storage and a subscription-supported backup layer, while automatic backup and restore address media recovery within the app's broader workflow.

PhotoGuard's trade-offs are clear. It is Android-only, so it does not suit households or teams looking for a shared cross-platform vault. The free version is supported by advertising, and Premium Monthly adds premium features, removes advertisements, and includes private cloud backup and synchronization. Choose PhotoGuard if you want a free Android vault with encryption, recovery, decoy access, intruder photos, and a private camera. Choose an alternative if iOS support, cross-platform access, or an ad-free experience without a monthly subscription is essential.
