Our verdict on Payflex

Payflex is a South African buy now, pay later service for merchants and shoppers. It supports Pay Now, Pay in 2, Pay in 3, and Pay in 4 at online and in-store checkout. Pay in 2 is spread over two paydays, Pay in 3 over three paydays, and Pay in 4 over six weeks. Pay Now is completed in one payment. The platform is especially suited to South African Shopify merchants, while custom ecommerce businesses can connect through the merchant API.

Integration options are a central strength. Merchants can use hosted checkout through redirect URLs, embed checkout with an iframe, or build a custom connection through the API. Plugins or add-ons are available for Shopify, Magento, and WordPress WooCommerce, while Payfast provides access to the merchant dashboard. This gives smaller merchants and custom ecommerce teams several implementation paths, although the platform ecosystem is centered on these listed integrations rather than a broad range of services.
