Our verdict on PatchPilot

PatchPilot is a self-hosted patch-management dashboard for homelabs, small IT teams, and system administrators managing Linux, macOS, and Windows machines. It connects to hosts over SSH, detects pending updates, displays fleet status, and deploys patches through Ansible. Manual and scheduled maintenance windows support planned operations, while the web dashboard and native iOS client provide access across different workflows. Its agentless design suits teams that want centralized patching without installing host agents.

Pricing is straightforward. The Monthly plan costs $5.99 per month, and the Annual plan costs $49 per year. Both plans provide a 14-day trial, require a license afterward, and use no per-host pricing. There is no permanent free plan. The annual option is the lower-cost billing choice for teams prepared to commit for a year, while monthly billing offers a shorter commitment. For a small fleet, the lack of per-host pricing keeps the pricing model easy to forecast as machines are added.

PatchPilot’s strongest fit is a mixed operating-system environment with established SSH access and a preference for self-hosted infrastructure. It supports apt, dnf, yum, Homebrew, Mac App Store, macOS softwareupdate, Windows Update, and winget, with package exclusions for Linux, macOS, and Windows package managers. Encrypted credential storage, role-based access control, encrypted backup and restore, Docker Compose, Kubernetes, and integrations including PostgreSQL, Ansible, and SSH add operational scope. Teams seeking a hosted service or a workflow not centered on SSH and Ansible should look elsewhere; teams comfortable managing their own deployment get a focused patching tool with clear scheduling and progress visibility.
