OtterStorage is a cloud object storage service built around an S3-compatible API. It is intended for developers, cloud providers, technical teams, and businesses that need storage for backups, archival data, SaaS applications, production workloads, or AI datasets. Browser-based object management and migration tools complement API access, while region selection supports deployment planning across available zones.

Pricing is organized by storage medium. The HDD plan costs €8 per TB per month and targets backups, archival, and cold data, with Object Lock, immutability, free requests and deletes, and the full S3 API. SSD costs €16 per TB per month for active workloads, SaaS, and production use, adding balanced performance, versioning, and lifecycle controls. NVMe costs €45 per TB per month for maximum performance, datasets, and AI workloads, with minimal latency and maximum throughput. All three plans include free requests and deletes, and the service uses paid monthly billing rather than a free plan.

The feature set covers practical storage administration and protection needs: encryption in transit and at rest, erasure coding durability, bucket policies, per-bucket access keys, object versioning, lifecycle expiration and cleanup rules, and Object Lock with Governance and Compliance modes. Bucket-level Legal Hold adds another control for retained objects. Compatibility with AWS CLI, MinIO Client, Rclone, Terraform, Restic, Kubernetes, and Velero supports migration and infrastructure workflows. OtterStorage is a strong fit for teams choosing storage by performance tier and needing S3 tooling, but organizations that require a built-in replication service or broader support channels should consider alternatives.

OtterStorage pros and cons

  • Where it wins
    • HDD, SSD, and NVMe tiers match different workload needs
    • Object Lock, Legal Hold, and lifecycle rules support data governance
    • Works with AWS CLI, Rclone, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Velero
  • Where it doesn't
    • No free plan or time-limited trial
    • No built-in replication service is currently documented
    • Support is provided through documentation
