Our verdict on Orbit
Orbit is a line of Bluetooth trackers for items such as keys, wallets, glasses and bicycles, rather than a standalone locator app. It suits Apple users who want to find Orbit trackers through Apple Find My on iPhone, iPad or Mac, or Find Items on Apple Watch. Buyers need compatible Apple devices, and some Orbit models are explicitly not compatible with Android. The product is a focused fit for people already choosing Orbit hardware, not a general-purpose app for tracking items from multiple brands.
Location combines nearby Bluetooth tracking with Apple's Find My network for items that are out of range. In Find My, users can view compatible Orbit trackers on a map and play a sound when a tracker is nearby. Orbit says its Find My network communications are anonymous and encrypted. Some tracker models have rechargeable batteries. The listed price is for a physical tracker purchase, not a subscription; buyers should account for the hardware purchase when comparing it with locator apps that do not require a tracker.
Apple Find My and iCloud define the ecosystem fit: Orbit items sync across Apple devices, while Android support is not universal across models. This makes Orbit most appropriate for solo Apple users who want a straightforward way to locate Orbit-tagged belongings and value Find My network coverage. It is a weaker choice for Android households, people seeking a platform-neutral locator, or buyers who want compatibility beyond Orbit's own-brand trackers. Support is offered by email, and GDPR is listed as a compliance item.
