Our verdict on Orbeon Forms

Orbeon Forms is a web-based platform for designing, deploying, and managing complex forms. Its Form Builder supports visual form creation, while Form Runner handles data capture, validation, search, import, export, permissions, and external-system integrations. Organizations such as governments, banks, healthcare providers, telecom companies, and educational institutions can use it for responsive forms, approval and rejection workflows, database persistence, PDF generation, and controlled access. It runs on-premises or in cloud environments through web and API access.

The published plans show annual, per-server pricing. PE Basic costs $1,300 per server per year and includes PE features, support for development, quality assurance, and staging environments, two incidents, and bug priority escalation. PE Silver costs $4,200 per server per year for production environments, with unlimited incidents, a typical one-business-day response time, and four hours of technical assistance. PE Gold costs $6,300 per server per year and adds a typical four-business-hour response time, eight hours of technical assistance, and a chat interface. A 90-day local development trial is available, while production use is covered by paid subscriptions.

Its strongest fit is for teams that need more than basic data collection. Role-based permissions, token-based access control, conditional visibility, read-only rules, calculations, dependencies, workflow stages, HTTP and database service actions, REST persistence, PDF template filling, and field-level encryption support structured business processes. Integration options include REST APIs, HTTP services, Java applications, JavaScript, React, Angular, Liferay, Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, DB2, and SQLite. Choose Orbeon Forms when server-based deployment, complex rules, approvals, and system integration are priorities. Teams seeking a lightweight form builder with simpler pricing may prefer a narrower tool.
