Our verdict on OpenKitchen
OpenKitchen is open-source back-of-house software for independent restaurants, multi-site groups, commissary kitchens, caterers, bakeries and cloud kitchens. It brings together ingredient and supplier records, supplier price history, recipe costing, food-cost analysis, inventory counts, production runs and supplier invoice reconciliation. The system also tracks expiry dates for licenses, permits, leases and HACCP certificates. Web access, a JSON API and self-hosted deployment make it suited to technical teams that want control over their restaurant operations foundation.
Its strongest area is connecting recipe economics with purchasing and stock signals. Recursive costing covers recipes and sub-recipes, while food-cost, margin and cost-drift analysis helps teams follow how ingredient prices affect menu economics. Inventory features include par levels, variance analysis, theoretical usage and production-run tracking. Reorder suggestions are generated for ingredients at or below par. Supplier invoice line-item capture and reconciliation extend the workflow beyond recipe management, giving operators a way to compare invoices with ingredient and supplier records.
OpenKitchen also fits teams that need to connect restaurant systems or build custom workflows.
