OpenFilz is an open-source cloud document management platform for organizations handling business documents at scale. Its Community plan is self-hosted under AGPL-3.0 and includes unlimited documents, virtual folders, metadata management, full-text search, versioning, restoration, audit trails, WORM mode, and REST and GraphQL APIs. Teams can also access document workflows, electronic signatures, browser-based Office editing, and AI-assisted document chat. With web, iOS, Android, API, and self-hosted access, OpenFilz is aimed at organizations that want modern collaboration while retaining control over deployment and document governance.

The feature set extends beyond basic file storage. Configurable approval workflows support tasks, due dates, and reminders, while electronic signatures include multi-signer envelopes and PAdES sealing. Full-text search works across document content, and the platform supports immutable audit trails and WORM archiving for records-oriented processes. Enterprise adds scanning and OCR, secure document sharing, advanced role-based access control, monitoring and observability, analytics and reporting, backup and disaster recovery, plus enterprise support and an SLA. These additions make the higher tier more relevant for organizations with formal governance, compliance, or operational requirements.

OpenFilz also fits environments that need an adaptable technical ecosystem. Its integrations include OnlyOffice, OpenSearch, Apache Tika, Keycloak, ClamAV, S3, MinIO, Docker, Kubernetes, SMB, SharePoint, OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, and Dropbox. REST, GraphQL, and MCP APIs support custom connections and automation. The free plan and 15-day trial lower the barrier to evaluation, while the self-hosted model places infrastructure and operations with the adopting organization. Open-source teams should consider OpenFilz when deployment control, document governance, and workflow depth matter; teams seeking a fully managed service with minimal operational ownership should look elsewhere.
