Our verdict on OpenEOS

OpenEOS is a web-based point-of-sale system for clubs, festivals and event catering. It suits operators that need mobile checkout on phones or tablets, QR-code self-ordering, kitchen and pickup displays, receipt printing, shift planning, and real-time reports. Its self-hosted edition is released under AGPLv3, while the SaaS option provides a hosted version. For gym operators, the product fits event-day concessions, pop-up sales, and food-service operations more naturally than member administration.

Pricing is split by operating model. The Self-hosted plan costs €0 forever and includes all features, unlimited events, community support, and control over the server. The SaaS plan costs €25 per event day, billed monthly, and adds hosting, backups, automatic updates, and premium support by email, phone, and WhatsApp. Hardware rental costs €50 per device per day and includes tablets, ESC/POS receipt printers, and kitchen or pickup displays. An internet gateway rental costs €30 per day and includes an LTE/5G router, unlimited data, Wi-Fi access, and LAN ports.

OpenEOS’s main strength is its event-oriented workflow: checkout, ordering, payment processing through SumUp, receipt printing through Raspberry Pi, shift planning, and operational dashboards are brought into one system. Self-hosting gives technically capable teams control over deployment, while SaaS reduces infrastructure responsibilities. The trade-off is focus. The described product centers on event operations rather than memberships, recurring billing, inventory, barcode scanning, or service sales. Choose OpenEOS for open-source, mobile event POS; choose a gym-focused system if member accounts and recurring subscriptions are core requirements.
