OpenEmail provides hosted email infrastructure for domains you own. It is aimed at developers, individuals, teams, applications, customers, and software agents that need to send, receive, store, forward, route, and administer email programmatically. Mailboxes and aliases can be managed through webmail, standard email clients, APIs, MCP, and CLI tools, making the product a fit for custom systems rather than only conventional inbox use.
The plan structure gives OpenEmail a low-cost entry point. Free includes production email on your own domain, webmail, IMAP, JMAP, POP3, and unlimited mailboxes and aliases. Pro costs $20 per month and adds unlimited domains, email support, and unlimited message retention while retaining unlimited mailboxes and aliases. Pro accounts also incur usage charges: $0.4 per 1,000 sent messages, $0.1 per 1,000 received messages, and $0.5 per GB-month of storage, billed monthly in arrears. That makes the free tier attractive for smaller or controlled workloads, while higher-volume deployments need to account for variable costs.
OpenEmail’s strongest distinction is its administration and automation surface. API, MCP, and CLI administration sit alongside mail forwarding, routing rules, webhooks, and spam filtering, while IMAP, JMAP, and POP3 support helps connect existing email clients and systems. The product is therefore well suited to developers building mailbox workflows or application-managed email operations. Teams seeking a conventional email suite with mobile apps, or organizations that do not need programmable controls, should consider a more traditional email-hosting option instead.
