Our verdict on OpenChoreo
OpenChoreo is an open-source internal developer platform for Kubernetes, built around a Backstage-powered developer portal. It is aimed at platform engineering teams that want to define reusable component types, traits, workflows, environments, and deployment pipelines, while giving developers self-service paths for creating components, building from source, configuring workloads, and promoting releases. The platform supports local installations and self-managed Kubernetes clusters in cloud or on-premises environments, with web, API, CLI, and self-hosted access options.
Its strongest fit is a Kubernetes delivery model that brings development, deployment, and operations into one portal. Kubernetes-native abstractions cover components, projects, environments, and deployment pipelines. Teams can create golden-path workflows, integrate external CI through GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins, and manage platform and application state with Flux CD or Argo CD.
