Our verdict on Open Worship
Open Worship is free, open-source presentation software for churches that need to organize worship songs, build service schedules, and display lyrics. It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux, making it suitable for churches using different desktop operating systems. The software can present lyrics to connected projectors or screens, control live presentation with keyboard shortcuts, and customize fonts, colors, backgrounds, and text shadows. Scripture can also be presented through custom text, while the song library supports search, tags, and text-file imports.
The Free plan is free forever and includes no subscriptions or ads. That pricing model makes Open Worship a practical fit for churches seeking presentation software without recurring software costs. Its open-source distribution also provides access to source code and documentation hosted on GitHub. The feature set is focused on core worship presentation tasks: song organization, setlist management, lyrics display, multi-display output, and live control. Churches looking for a straightforward desktop application for these needs can cover the main workflow without choosing between paid tiers.
Livestream compatibility is a central strength. Open Worship provides NDI output and works with OBS, vMix, and Wirecast, allowing lyrics to feed into established streaming workflows. Multi-display output supports presentation across connected screens or projectors, while custom styling helps adapt lyric presentation to a church’s visual setup. Choose Open Worship if free, open-source software with lyrics, scheduling, multi-display output, and livestream integration matches the church’s priorities. It is less suited to teams seeking AI-assisted features or a broader production workflow beyond worship presentation and streaming.
