Our verdict on OpenLP
OpenLP is free, open-source presentation software for churches and worship teams. It brings songs, Bible verses, presentations, images, videos, audio and custom slides into a desktop application, while supporting Windows, macOS and Linux. Remote control is available through a web browser, with Android and iOS remote applications for service control. Churches can install it on multiple computers without subscription or per-seat licensing, making it a fit for established teams that can manage open-source software.
The feature set covers the main elements of a church service workflow. Teams can import and manage songs from multiple sources, create service orders, display content, and provide a stage view for remote monitors. PowerPoint, PowerPoint Viewer, LibreOffice Impress and VLC integrations extend presentation and media handling. The platform also supports presenter mode and works across the listed desktop, web and mobile environments. This breadth makes OpenLP more suitable for churches coordinating varied service content than for teams seeking only a basic lyric display.
OpenLP’s main trade-off is platform-dependent presentation support. PowerPoint support depends on the operating system and external presentation software, and the manual states that this support is not currently available on macOS. Development is volunteer-led, which may be less suitable for churches that want a commercial support structure.
