Windows, macOS, and Linux support make it practical across common desktop environments, while its focused design centers on visual traceroute rather than a broad packet-analysis suite.
Its standout feature is route visualization on an interactive 3D world map, with a 2D map available for systems affected by OpenGL limitations. The diagnostic view also includes traceroute latency, DNS lookup-time information, Whois lookups, and DNS information associated with network nodes. Route replay and traceroute history help users revisit paths, while CSV export supports keeping route results for further analysis. Dark mode rounds out the desktop presentation.
Open Visual Traceroute is a strong fit when free visual exploration is the priority and an open-source desktop application meets the workflow.
