Our verdict on Onyx

Onyx is a free, open-source desktop game library manager for players who own games across several storefronts. It brings supported libraries into one interface for browsing, searching, organizing, editing metadata, and launching games. Windows is the primary supported platform, while Linux support is available through AppImage, DEB, and RPM packages in testing. Onyx does not require an account or subscription, making it a focused option for users who want local control over a multi-store collection.

Its main strength is storefront and launcher coverage. Onyx integrates with Steam, Epic Games, GOG, Xbox, EA App, Ubisoft Connect, Battle.net, Humble, Rockstar, Lutris, Bottles, itch.io, and Heroic Games Launcher. Automatic detection and scanning can find installed games, while the consolidated library supports grid, list, logo, carousel, and cover-flow views. Metadata editing covers titles, release dates, and developers, and artwork and banner searching uses multiple sources. Game entries can also launch mod managers, extending the library beyond basic shortcuts.

The trade-off is a narrower platform and synchronization scope. Windows is the clearest fit, while Linux users are working with support explicitly described as testing; macOS is not supported. Cloud sync is not included, so Onyx is better suited to players who want a desktop library manager rather than a shared collection across devices. Choose it for open-source storefront aggregation, local organization, visual customization, and launcher consolidation. Consider another option if macOS support, established Linux support, or cloud-based library synchronization is essential.
