Our verdict on OmniRepo

OmniRepo is an open-source, self-hosted artifact registry for small-to-mid-sized teams and air-gapped environments. It brings OCI/Docker, RPM, APT, PyPI, Helm, Go, npm, Maven, Git, S3, and raw-blob repositories into a single container. The web dashboard covers repositories, scans, keys, mirrors, and audit logs, while Linux, web, API, and self-hosted deployment options support customer-managed operation. Its Apache-2.0 license and free plan make it a fit for teams that want control over deployment and repository formats.

The strongest case for OmniRepo is its combination of format breadth and supply-chain controls. Built-in Trivy vulnerability scanning supports configurable severity gates for each repository, and project-scoped role-based access control separates permissions by project. Upstream mirroring is available for APT, RPM, PyPI, and Helm repositories. Content-addressed storage is shared across repositories, while audit logs can be produced in SQLite and NDJSON formats. These capabilities give teams a consolidated registry with policy and traceability features rather than separate services for each artifact type.

Air-gap operation is a defining fit: OmniRepo makes no outbound calls unless updates are explicitly enabled. The REST API uses OpenAPI 3.1 and includes Swagger UI, which supports documented API-oriented administration and integration. The trade-off is operational ownership: there is no hosted or SaaS version, so deployment and ongoing management remain with the customer. Teams needing many native formats, offline operation, scanning gates, and project-level access control should consider OmniRepo. Teams looking for a vendor-hosted registry should choose a product with a SaaS deployment model instead.
