Our verdict on Obsidium

Obsidium is a paid, perpetual Windows software protection and licensing system for software companies and independent developers. It protects 32-bit and 64-bit applications against reverse engineering, unauthorized modification, and redistribution. Supported targets include EXE, DLL, SCR, and .NET Framework executables. Its feature set covers executable compression, code and data encryption, code virtualization, runtime code encryption, license-key systems, hardware locking, USB licensing, time trials, watermarking, file-integrity checks, and licensing APIs.

Its strongest fit is a Windows licensing workflow that needs more than basic packing. Long and short license-key systems, network licensing, an integrated customer database, and licensing APIs support several distribution models. Hardware locking and USB licensing are especially relevant where access must be tied to a device, with Senselock USB dongles listed as an integration. Command-line protection and license-generation automation also give development teams a way to incorporate protection tasks into scripted processes.

Obsidium is less suitable for teams distributing software beyond Windows or looking for a free entry tier. The product is focused on native Windows executables and .NET Framework executables rather than broad platform coverage, and the evaluation downloads have documented functional limitations. Choose it when executable protection, licensing controls, USB or hardware locking, and command-line automation belong in the same Windows-focused tool. Consider an alternative when cross-platform delivery or an unrestricted free plan is central to the buying decision.
