Our verdict on ObjectBox

ObjectBox is an embedded, object-oriented database for mobile, IoT, edge, desktop, and server applications. It suits teams building applications that need local data persistence, offline-first operation, object relations, and native access across multiple platforms. Supported environments include Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, macOS, Raspberry Pi, and other POSIX-compatible systems. Native APIs are available for Java, Kotlin, Dart, Flutter, Go, C, C++, Swift, and Python.

The core database is free, while ObjectBox Sync is priced per project and usage with personalized quotes. Sync adds optional bidirectional synchronization across devices and cloud or on-premise servers, making it relevant for applications that must continue operating locally and synchronize data when connected. The database also provides ACID-compliant transactions, reactive data observers and queries, and on-device vector search. That combination gives ObjectBox a broader scope than local persistence alone, although teams should account for Sync as a separate paid capability.

Its cross-platform language coverage is a strong fit for products sharing a data layer across mobile, desktop, edge, and server targets. MongoDB is the listed integration, while the platform centers on its own embedded database APIs rather than a broad integration catalog. The default C/C++ database limit is 1 GB and can be changed through configuration. Choose ObjectBox when offline operation, native APIs, synchronization, relations, and on-device search are central requirements. Consider an alternative when a wider integration ecosystem or a fixed, publicly stated Sync price is more important than embedded, local-first storage.
