Our verdict on Nyxt

Nyxt is a keyboard-driven desktop web browser for power users, researchers, and people who want extensive control over browsing workflows. Its interface centers on commands rather than mouse-driven navigation, with support for Emacs-, vi-, and CUA-style keybindings. Fuzzy buffer switching, multi-tab search, tagged bookmarks, and tree-based history give users several ways to manage complex browsing sessions. Nyxt is open source and uses WebKit as its default-supported browser engine.

The strongest case for Nyxt is its depth of keyboard control and runtime programmability. A built-in REPL and Common Lisp support allow users to customize workflows and create extensions, while automation modes cover form filling and browser actions. Blocker mode provides domain-based ad blocking without requiring a separate browser add-on. These capabilities make Nyxt particularly suitable for technically inclined Linux users who prefer configurable tools and command-driven navigation over a conventional browser interface.

Nyxt is available as a free download, with a separate pay-what-you-can purchase option. Its ecosystem is intentionally focused: KeePassXC is listed as an integration, while WebExtensions are not available. The official distribution is for Linux, and macOS and Windows ports remain in development. Users who need cross-device sync, broad extension-marketplace compatibility, or a mainstream multi-platform browser should choose an alternative. Nyxt fits better when keyboard control, automation, search, and programmability matter more than platform breadth or a conventional add-on ecosystem.
