Our verdict on NumenText

NumenText is an open-source, terminal-based IDE written in Go for developers who want an IDE-like workflow without modal editing. It combines multi-tab editing, syntax highlighting for 20+ languages, an integrated PTY terminal, language-server tooling, debugging, testing, formatting, linting, search and replace, and Git diff markers. Go developers are the clearest audience, while support for language servers and debuggers across Python, C/C++, Rust, TypeScript, Kotlin, Java, and JVM workflows broadens its use.

Its strongest area is the connection between editing and development tasks. The LSP client provides autocomplete, definition lookup, hover information, and diagnostics, while DAP integration supports breakpoints and stepping. Go build and run commands, go test support, configurable formatters, and format-on-save or lint-on-save settings cover a practical coding loop. Remote execution over SSH and distribution as single binaries also suit developers working on remote machines or preferring terminal-based tools.

NumenText is a focused choice rather than a full replacement for every Go IDE workflow. It supports macOS and Linux, but not other listed platforms, and its verified Go coverage does not include Go modules or refactoring support.
