Our verdict on Nona

Nona is an open-source, self-hosted service for managing typed runtime configuration values and feature flags. Teams can organize settings by project and environment, then let applications read them through a REST API, official clients, or OpenFeature providers. Its scope model separates client-readable, server-only, and shared values, making it suited to small and mid-market teams that need control over where configuration runs and who can read it.

Configuration governance is Nona’s clearest strength. Teams can inspect configuration history, roll back previous versions, create immutable releases, and activate those releases when ready. Administrative actions are recorded in audit logs, while RBAC provides access control. The integration surface includes OpenFeature, JavaScript, Node.js, React Native, .NET, Android, and Swift, so applications can connect without relying only on a single SDK. A REST API is available when direct HTTP access is preferable.

Nona is free and open source, with deployment on your own infrastructure. That model fits organizations that want ownership of their configuration service and environment separation without a paid tier structure. Support is community-based, and the product focuses on straightforward boolean release gates and kill switches rather than audience-aware experimentation. Built-in per-user targeting, segmentation, percentage rollouts, and rollout controls are not part of the feature set. Choose Nona when typed values, auditability, version control, and self-hosting matter most; choose an alternative if targeted or percentage-based feature delivery is central to your release process.
