Our verdict on Netipam
Netipam is a free, open-source network documentation and visibility tool for homelabs and small businesses using UniFi. It is self-hosted and available through web and Linux deployments, with Docker and Linux installation options described by the vendor. The product imports UniFi clients, devices, and subnets, then organizes network information across IP address management, device inventory, topology, relationships, locations, and racks. Its role-based access model includes Admin, Editor, and Viewer access.
Its strongest fit is the combination of UniFi imports and structured network records. Netipam tracks IP address and subnet utilization, shows upstream connections in network topology, and stores device and client inventory fields. It also records online/offline status and IP history, maps host-and-guest relationships, and supports location and rack assignments. Dashboard alerts identify offline and newly discovered devices, while Excel and full-data exports support documentation workflows outside the application. Credential storage, IP address management, network diagrams, and relationship mapping are included in the product's listed category capabilities.
Netipam is a sensible choice for teams that want direct control over network documentation without relying on cloud services. Its open-source, self-hosted model suits organizations comfortable operating software on Linux or through Docker, and its UniFi integration keeps setup focused for that ecosystem. Proxmox is also listed as an integration. The tradeoff is breadth: the product is currently UniFi-centric, so teams managing varied network platforms or requiring a wider integration ecosystem should consider an alternative with broader platform coverage. Choose Netipam for focused UniFi documentation, IPAM, topology, inventory, and alerting; look elsewhere when multi-vendor integration is the primary requirement.
