Our verdict on NERV Disaster Prevention

For people living in or visiting Japan, NERV Disaster Prevention brings location-based weather information and disaster warnings into a smartphone app. It covers weather and typhoon forecasts, rain-cloud radar, temperature and wind, alongside alerts for earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic activity. Flood, landslide, heavy-rain and river-level information broaden its scope beyond a conventional forecast app. It is available on Android and iOS, and suits users who want hazard notifications in addition to everyday weather updates.

The app’s map is a notable part of that coverage: users can view rain radar and switch among layers for cloud cover, typhoon forecasts, tsunami warnings and earthquake intensity. Critical notifications address imminent hazards, while location-based alerts connect information to places users care about. Lightning information is updated every minute; other frequently updated information is reflected promptly. The combination is useful for people who want weather and disaster information in one mobile tool, rather than a forecast-only app.

Core app information remains accessible to all users, according to the vendor, while optional Supporters’ Club memberships add features. The E Plan includes more registered locations, a digital membership card, incoming rain alerts, early access features and a Crisis Mapping Editors Role. EE adds members-only content to those benefits. These memberships are not required to use the core app, and subscription prices may vary by account country or region. NERV is a fit for Japan-focused hazard awareness; users seeking weather coverage outside Japan or a desktop app should look elsewhere.
